The coir is a rustic product giving a slightly harder look and feel to an area for covering larger areas it makes an ideal choice as it is one of the more economic natural fibres. Dependent on use it can give an good service life provided thought is given to how it is employed and how long you require it to last. In a domestic location it could be expected to last several years, It has been used in stateley homes for years as a floor cover because of its economy and wearing capabilities.
The coir fiber is relatively water-proof and is one of the few natural fibers resistant to damage by salt water. Fresh water is used to process brown coir, while sea water and fresh water are both used in the production of white coir. Because of this coir is a useful product to use in areas that are prone to moisture such as summer houses or conservatories, or internally where there may be damp issues. Its open weave also allows the moisture to evapourate quickly.
